We file the paperwork the county health department requires.

Good septic repair contractors explain the problem in plain words. If we cannot fix it for a fair price, we will tell you that too.

WARNING SIGNS

What Are the Signs Your Septic Tank Needs Repair?

Your system usually sends warnings before it breaks down. The most common sign is every drain in the house slowing down at once. Watch for these too:

  • You hear gurgling from a toilet or shower drain.
  • A sewage smell near the tank, the yard or the drains.
  • Wet, soggy ground over the tank in dry weather.
  • Soil sinking or dipping around the tank lid.
  • The tank fills again soon after a pump out.
  • Sewage backing up into a tub or floor drain.

Any one of these is worth a call. Two or more at once usually point to the tank, the lines or the drain field.

Why Is My Septic Tank Draining Slowly?

Start by counting how many drains are slow. If only one sink is slow, the clog is probably inside your house. If every drain is slow, the problem sits in the main line, the tank or the drain field.

A septic tank slow drain problem often comes from one of four causes. The outlet filter may be clogged with solids. The tank may be overdue for pumping. Roots may have grown into the inlet pipe. Or the drain field may be soaked and unable to take more water. Septic tank not draining fast enough? A technician can check all four causes in one visit.

REPAIRS

What Septic Repairs Do We Handle?

Most septic repairs near you fall into six groups. Each one has its own cost and fix.

Baffles

Baffles are the tees or walls at the inlet and outlet of your tank. They keep scum and solids from flowing out to the drain field. Old concrete baffles crumble from sewer gas over time.

Will a septic tank work without a baffle? It will keep flowing, but solids escape into the drain field and clog it. A missing outlet baffle can ruin a drain field that costs thousands to replace. We swap broken baffles for durable PVC tees.

Lids and Risers

A cracked or loose lid is a safety risk, especially with kids and pets in the yard. We replace damaged lids and can add risers. A riser brings the lid up to ground level, so you never pay to dig again.

Outlet Filters

Florida requires an approved outlet filter or a solids deflection device on every tank. A clogged filter backs water up into the house. Many filters just need a cleaning. A cracked or missing filter needs a new one.

Cracks and Leaks

Small cracks above the water line can often be sealed. Cracks below the water line let groundwater in and sewage out. In our high water table, that can flood the tank after every storm. Large cracks usually mean the tank needs replacing.

Inlet and Outlet Lines

The pipe from your house to the tank can crack, sag or fill with roots. So can the line from the tank to the drain field. A camera shows the exact spot, so we dig one small hole instead of the whole yard. If you need septic line repair near you, ask for a camera inspection first.

Distribution Box

The distribution box splits water evenly across the drain field lines. When it tilts, cracks or clogs, some lines flood while others stay dry. Replacing the box is a small job that protects the whole field.

If your issue is a failed pump or alarm, that is a separate repair.

HOW IT WORKS

How Does the Septic Repair Process Work?

A good repair follows the same six steps every time.

  1. Diagnose. We open the tank, check levels and run a camera if needed.
  2. Quote. You get a written price with photos of the problem.
  3. Permit. We file with the county health department when the job needs one.
  4. Pump. We empty the tank so the crew can work safely inside it.
  5. Repair. We replace or fix the failed part.
  6. Test. We run water through the system and confirm it flows the right way.

How Long Does It Take to Repair a Septic System?

A baffle, lid or filter repair usually takes a few hours. A line repair can take a full day. Larger jobs that need a permit and inspection can take longer, depending on the county's schedule. We give you a timeline with your quote.

FLORIDA RULES

Do You Need a Permit for Septic Repair in Florida?

Usually, yes. Florida rule 62-6.003 says all repairs require a system construction permit. Swapping in the same kind of mechanical or electrical part does not count as a repair. A like for like filter or float may not need one. A new baffle, line or tank section often will.

Florida law also says who can do the work. A registered septic tank contractor can handle any repair. A homeowner can repair the system on their own single family home they live in. They still need every permit and inspection.

Do Plumbers Deal With Septic Issues?

Plumbers fix pipes inside your home and many handle the main line out to the tank. Work inside the tank or on the drain field usually calls for a registered septic contractor. When in doubt, call a septic company first. We can tell you which trade you need.

What Is the New Law on Septic Repairs in Florida?

One rule changes repair costs in parts of Orange County. Since March 1, 2025, the Wekiwa Springs and Rock Springs protection area has a stricter rule. On lots under 1 acre, any repair there triggers a nitrogen reducing system. A simple fix can become a much bigger project.

Help is available. Orange County's grant program pays up to $10,000 toward these upgrades, and Wekiwa area homes get priority. If you live near Apopka, ask about the rule before you approve any repair.

What Should You Do If Your Septic Tank Collapses?

A septic tank collapse is dangerous. The ground can give way under a person, a pet or a mower. If you see a hole or a sudden dip near your tank, act right away.

  1. Stop using water. Do not flush or run any taps.
  2. Keep everyone back. Rope off the area and keep kids and pets inside.
  3. Do not step near the edge. The hole can widen without warning.
  4. Call a septic pro. We can secure the area and assess the damage.
  5. Call 911 if someone falls in. Never climb in to help.

Most collapses start with an old steel tank that rusted through. It can also come from a concrete lid crushed by a truck. An old tank that was never properly abandoned is another common cause. Florida rules say an abandoned tank must be pumped, broken open and filled with clean sand. Many older tanks were simply left in place.

Is It a Collapsed Septic Tank or a Sinkhole?

Central Florida knows sinkholes well. In May 1981, the Winter Park sinkhole opened about 300 feet wide and 80 feet deep. It swallowed a house, part of an auto shop and a community pool.

A collapsed septic tank sinkhole looks different. It is usually small and round, right where the tank or lid sits. You may smell sewage nearby. A true sinkhole can show up anywhere, grow fast and crack walls or driveways. If the dip is near your tank, call us first. If it is near your foundation or keeps growing, contact your insurer and a sinkhole engineer. The Florida Geological Survey also tracks sinkhole reports. A septic tank sinkhole and a real one need very different fixes.

How Much Does Septic Tank Repair Cost in Orlando?

Septic repair in Orlando averages about $1,203, with most jobs between $385 and $2,210 (Angi, September 2026). Here is what common repairs cost locally.

RepairTypical Orlando cost (Angi, 2026)
Lid$150 to $500
Outlet filter$200 to $300
Baffle$305 to $915
Pump$255 to $1,015
Broken line$1,020 to $4,260

Your septic tank repair cost depends on tank depth and yard access. A permit can add to it too.

What Is the Most Expensive Part of a Septic System?

The drain field. Replacing one often costs several thousand dollars, far more than any tank part. That is why fixing a broken outlet baffle fast matters so much. It keeps solids out of the field.

Will Homeowners Insurance Pay for Septic Repair?

Most Florida policies do not cover normal wear and tear, roots, settling or lack of pumping. Some policies cover sudden damage, like a tree falling on the tank or a car crushing the lid. A water backup add on may help with damage inside your home. Call your insurer and ask before you file. We can provide photos and a written report for your claim.

How to Avoid Septic Repair Scams

One Reddit thread asked, "$16,000 septic tank repair. Am I being swindled?" It drew hundreds of replies. Many homeowners face the same question. Protect yourself with these steps:

  • Ask for photos or video of the problem.
  • Get the quote in writing, broken down by part.
  • Get a second opinion on any job over a few thousand dollars.
  • Check that the company is a registered septic contractor.
  • Be careful with pressure to sign the same day.

An honest company welcomes a second opinion.

Call (321) 872-9877 →

How Long Do Septic Baffles Last?

Concrete baffles can wear out in 20 to 30 years, sometimes sooner. Sewer gas slowly eats away at them. PVC replacement baffles resist that damage and often outlast the tank.

Can a Cracked Septic Tank Be Repaired?

Sometimes. Small cracks above the water line can often be sealed. Cracks below the water line or in the floor usually mean a new tank. A pumped and cleaned tank shows the true damage.

What Eats Sludge in a Septic Tank?

Bacteria in your tank break down some waste, but they cannot remove all the sludge. The EPA says additives are not needed. Only regular pumping clears the sludge that builds up over time.

Can I Drive Over the Tank?

Avoid it. Most tank lids are not built for cars or trucks. The weight can crack the lid or the tank and cause a collapse. Keep vehicles off the tank and drain field.

Why Does My Yard Smell Like Sewage After Rain?

Heavy rain raises the water table and floods the drain field. Effluent can rise toward the surface and release odor. If the smell lasts after the ground dries, a cracked tank or failed field may be the cause.

Can Roots Be Removed From a Septic Line?

Yes. A crew can cut roots out with a cutter or jetter. The fix may not last if the tree stays close. A cracked pipe with roots inside usually needs a new section.

Is a Free Repair Estimate Worth It?

A free estimate helps you compare prices. Make sure it includes a real look at the problem, not just a guess. Ask for photos and a written breakdown before you agree to anything.

Do I Need to Pump the Tank Before a Repair?

For most repairs inside the tank, yes. The crew needs the tank empty to work safely and see the damage. Pumping also shows cracks that hide below the waste line.
